Scaling faster gives OneDigital a competitive edge.

Rapidly growing consulting firm quickly integrates newly acquired companies and broadens operations to meet increased demand.

$50,000 a year in internal time-saving costs

Faster merit cycles and performance reviews

Quicker job candidate review process

Yearly growth rate of over 9%

Nationally recognized for a culture of caring, OneDigital helps thousands of employers and individuals reach their health and financial security goals. The leading insurance brokerage, financial services, and HR consulting firm has achieved tremendous growth in recent years. Forty percent of that growth comes from OneDigital’s mergers and acquisitions strategy. The firm, which hires about 1,000 people a year, acquires approximately 2 to 3 businesses a month and has a yearly growth rate of over 9 percent.

John Bruce, vice president of people technology and operations at OneDigital, says the firm’s decision to use Workday Human Capital Management to manage rapid growth has paid off. “The biggest benefit OneDigital has gained with Workday has been scalability,” Bruce says. “I don’t think our legacy platforms could have supported the rate at which we’ve scaled in an effective way.”

Bruce explains how OneDigital can integrate newly acquired companies and broaden operations to meet increased demand. “It creates a competitive advantage for us to easily plug the acquired firm into our infrastructure so everybody can immediately use it,” Bruce says.

Increased support to expand in Medicare market.

Bruce says OneDigital has expanded its health and financial services offerings, including expanding into Medicare Advantage. “The Medicare Advantage call center operation is fundamentally different from the rest of our business,” Bruce says. “Workday has been able to help us there because we’re able to use things like evergreen requisitions, which has improved our ability to hire talent at a much faster rate.”

Managers can use Workday Recruiting to tailor hiring efforts and conduct automated background checks. “Before, we had to manually order background checks for all new hires, which was time-consuming,” Bruce says. It’s estimated that OneDigital saves about $50,000 a year in internal time saving costs through automation that includes recruitment efforts. “Recruiters just click a button, and the background check gets ordered,” Bruce says.

Bruce is particularly excited about HiredScore, a Workday company that provides AI-powered talent orchestration solutions. “We are looking to explore seamless AI integration to help our recruiters source, select, and sift through candidates quicker,” Bruce says.

HiredScore surfaces explainable and trustworthy AI-driven insights to help identify and screen candidates whose skills and experience most closely match open positions. Recruiters can use the data to connect talent to open opportunities more quickly. OneDigital hires about 1,000 candidates a year from a pool of nearly 90,000 people. “Anything we can do to gain recruiter efficiency is huge, especially when it comes to helping them make the right selection,” Bruce says.

Attract and develop top talent.

OneDigital stays ahead of the constantly evolving marketplace by using Workday Talent Optimization to attract, retain, and develop a high-performing workforce that builds upon its success. Bruce says the Workday Talent Optimization system lets the firm pinpoint who has the most suitable skills for each role.

“That’s crucial for us in recruitment,” Bruce says. “When searching for someone with a unique skill set, for example, we can more easily find candidates who excel in that area.”

Skills are also tracked to help determine promotions. “That enhances our employee engagement because we are promoting from within based on the skills we have in our organization,” Bruce says. “Employees can more clearly see and achieve their career growth goals.”

Automated compensation features help firm grow.

The firm also leverages Workday Compensation for its merit cycles and performance reviews, which were time-consuming and spreadsheet-based. “Workday Compensation was crucial to our success, and ultimately, everybody loved it,” Bruce says.

OneDigital plans to use Workday Compensation for its annual bonus cycle. “It’s going to take us away from spreadsheets, which will create huge efficiency gains and reduce the potential for error,” Bruce says.

The firm is also exploring Workday Compensation to automate various compensation statements for OneDigital’s producers. The statements track information such as lines of businesses and commissioner percentages. “There’s no easy way to do that,” Bruce says. “Right now, it’s all being done manually.”

Our people managers loved using Workday Compensation for performance reviews and merit increases. It was faster and reduced our potential for error.

More time to focus on strategic tasks.

Employees use Workday Everywhere to access tasks and insights and to collaborate with colleagues in one system and from their preferred digital workspace. They can quickly request time off and provide feedback from their personalized dashboard.

Automatic reminders send notifications about actions to take or insights to view. Employees can use Workday Assistant, a digital assistant chatbot, to answer questions on the fly, such as learning more about the firm’s policies, checking time-off balances, or accessing profile information.

Using the Workday platforms means less time spent on administrative tasks and more time devoted to strategic activities. “We are able to spend less time on manual tasks and more time on higher-value, strategic activities,” Bruce says. “At the end of the day, that means we are more effective at being fierce advocates for our people, our clients, and our clients’ employees.”
