Just Eat Takeaway.com (JET), a leading global on-demand delivery marketplace that connects consumers and partners in 17 countries, has always prioritized the experiences of its people. With a workforce of more than 10,000 corporate staff, and over 26,000 couriers, fostering engagement across diverse markets and roles presents unique challenges. Joris Balkema, global head of Employee Experience at Just Eat Takeaway.com, leads efforts to ensure everyone feels heard and valued. By leveraging Workday Peakon Employee Voice, Just Eat Takeaway.com is transforming how it listens to employees, acts on insights, and shapes the future of work.

The challenge: Turning insights into action.

Just Eat Takeaway.com’s EX strategy centers on understanding what employees value most and addressing their needs. Balkema describes its approach: “We want to have the best understanding of what makes our employees tick—how they feel about working at Just Eat Takeaway.com and how they want to interact with us as their employer.” However, achieving this on a global scale requires balancing centralized strategies with localized needs.

“Our biggest challenge, as with every company, is turning insights into action,” Balkema acknowledges. “We gather data, generate insights, but ensuring consistent follow-through across teams and regions remains a challenge.” This gap often stems from competing priorities, the complexity of analysis, and already full diaries. As JET strives for a high-performance culture that prioritizes people goals alongside business goals, it’s then essential to make actionable people insights easily accessible, enabling managers to integrate them seamlessly into daily decisions and drive meaningful action.

“Our biggest challenge has been shifting from insights to action—balancing a global perspective with the ability to dive deep into local experiences. We’ve struggled with aligning the global view and local influence, but the potential we saw in Workday Peakon is coming true.”

Differentiated listening strategy enhances engagement.

Just Eat Takeaway.com selected Workday Peakon Employee Voice to address these challenges and create a more dynamic feedback ecosystem. The platform allows JET to gather continuous, actionable insights across its global workforce. “We saw potential in Workday Peakon because it supports differentiated listening and has a great UX, with even more future enhancements to come. We can now ask specific questions tailored to different markets or roles for example” Balkema explains. “This heterogenic approach is critical for understanding cultural differences and local experiences.”

The integration of Workday Peakon with the broader Workday ecosystem will also play a vital role. Balkema notes, “The connection with the Manager Insights Hub could open new opportunities; for example, finding all your people’s insights in one place. It’s about creating a seamless experience for leaders to access insights and take ownership of their team’s development, all in the flow of work.”

Early impact and future plans.

Since deploying Workday Peakon Employee Voice, Just Eat Takeaway.com has taken significant steps toward fostering a culture of continuous listening. Features such as personal dashboards empower employees and managers to understand feedback within their teams. As Balkema highlights, “The personal dashboard we launched last year gives employees a clearer sense of where they stand, enabling them to take action or start conversations with their manager. It’s a way of shifting ownership and responsibility from just the manager to a joint one, while also enhancing transparency around results.

Just Eat Takeaway.com will also implement AI innovations such as Workday Illuminate™-powered comment summarization. With tens of thousands of comments generated from surveys, analyzing feedback at scale is often experienced as overwhelming. Balkema shares, “With the AI functionality summarizing comments, we can derive meaningful insights much easier, which makes it less daunting to explore a more continuous listening approach in the future.”

Looking ahead, Just Eat Takeaway.com plans to expand its use of Workday Peakon Employee Voice. Upcoming pilots will test differentiated surveys in specific countries and functions, allowing for even more targeted feedback. Additionally, initiatives such as Moments That Matter listening and exit surveys are on the horizon. Balkema says, “The potential we saw in Workday Peakon is coming true. The roadmap is promising, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.”

“The personal dashboard empowers employees to take action or start conversations with managers while providing managers a channel to interact with their teams on relevant actions and progress, which ultimately drive team engagement.”

Global Head of Employee Experience

A commitment to employee-centered innovation.

For Just Eat Takeaway.com, the journey is ongoing. By combining Workday Peakon capabilities with a thoughtful, research-driven approach, the company is redefining employee experience.

Balkema reflects, “It’s not just about gathering feedback; it’s also about making life at Just Eat Takeaway.com better—whether through simpler processes, stronger manager-employee interactions, or clearer career development opportunities. That’s what we’re working toward.”

Workday has become a trusted partner in this mission, providing the tools and insights needed to elevate employee engagement. As Balkema puts it, “We’re on a journey, and Workday is helping us navigate it. The results speak for themselves.”
