Saved $300,000 annually by decommissioning legacy systems

Consolidated global operations onto a single platform

Founded nearly two decades ago in Copenhagen, Unity has grown into the leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D content. Beyond gaming, their technology drives interactive 3D experiences, virtual reality simulations, and visual layers for industry leaders in automotive and aerospace. However, rapidly scaling a global technology enterprise requires back-office operations to move at the same speed as front-end innovation.

Prior to consolidating their enterprise environment on Workday Financial Management, Unity faced the operational friction common to fast-growing tech companies. Finance and administrative operations relied on a fragmented ecosystem of disparate off-the-shelf software products patched together. Broken integrations often went unnoticed, forecasting numbers were prone to inaccuracies, and monthly close cycles stretched out. To support their global vision, Unity needed a single source of truth that could eliminate tech sprawl, streamline compliance processes, and deliver actionable insights to decision-makers.

Unifying disaggregated data for strategic speed

To break down data silos and establish agile operations, Unity chose to deploy Workday as their unified enterprise platform across financial management, core HR, payroll, procurement, and Adaptive from Workday. By bringing their core processes into a single ecosystem, Unity eliminated redundant software layers and simplified system administration.

The transition to a unified system immediately unlocked greater operational visibility and speed across the company's global finance function. Having a consolidated platform drastically simplified compliance processes while allowing leadership to manage the system with a lean, highly specialized team. Rather than navigating multiple standalone point solutions, Unity gained the ability to run its business on one cohesive platform.

Our business couldn't move at the speed that we would like it to. Moving onto Workday, we were able to consolidate all of our processes within one unified system.

Building an intelligent finance brain and accelerating the close

With a single core system in place, Unity turned their attention toward optimizing financial processes and accelerating their  reporting timelines. High on the leadership agenda was reducing the monthly accounting close cycle. By consolidating processes and streamlining reporting workflows, Unity set a clear path to shift from a 12-day monthly close to a streamlined 5-day close.

This speed ensures executive stakeholders and revenue leaders receive critical business data faster to drive better decisions. The team focused on creating an "intelligent finance brain"—a proactive data model designed to help answer executive questions around revenue, software spend, and operational metrics before they are even asked. Instead of spending days pulling data from disconnected systems, leadership receives clean, actionable insights at their fingertips.

We want to get data into our stakeholders' hands faster so that they can make decisions quicker, faster, and more informed.

Eliminating legacy tech debt to save $300,000 annually.

As part of their architectural modernization, Unity tackled long-standing technical debt by decommissioning legacy ERP systems that had previously served as costly historical data repositories. Instead of paying recurring licensing fees to retain access to legacy platforms, Unity migrated historical financial data into Workday Prism Analytics.

By centralizing granular historical data in Workday Prism Analytics alongside real-time financials, Unity eliminated third-party maintenance overhead while giving finance teams seamless access to historical trends. This initiative alone eliminated $300,000 in annual subscription costs. Furthermore, Unity leverages Workday Extend and Workday Studio to build native app extensions and internal orchestrations, replacing complex middleware and positioning the organization for scalable growth.

Looking ahead, Unity continues to expand their digital capabilities across learning, automated sub-agent workflows, and AI-driven planning, helping ensure their finance architecture remains agile, economical, and ready to support the next generation of real-time 3D innovation.

Migrating that data into Prism allows us to save money and save people time and resources to redeploy them... saving us $300,000 a year.
