UnitingCare Queensland is a nonprofit that provides aged care, disability support, health care, and crisis response services throughout Australia. While the organization has many arms, they noticed that BlueCare — their aged care division — was struggling to stay staffed.
Priding themselves on a high-touch hiring experience, BlueCare’s recruiters employ an intensive screening process to ensure candidates possess the knowledge and skills their customers depend on. And while manually screening candidates did help BlueCare find qualified caregivers, it also slowed down the hiring process, leading to significant drop-off.

At the beginning of every application, BlueCare has to confirm some basics: whether candidates fit minimum requirements and have the legal certifications to undertake the role. Having recruiters handle this screening didn’t just slow the process down — it gave recruiters less time to spend with candidates in the one-on-one stage of their recruitment journey.
To solve this bottleneck, BlueCare implemented Workday Paradox Candidate Experience Agent, and now leverages their AI agent Olive to handle the administrative back and forth that recruiters had previously overseen.
When candidates are interested in applying, they just chat with Olive on BlueCare’s career site. Olive turns the application into a simple conversation, screening candidates with a few quick messages. If candidates are qualified, Olive moves them forward in the process.
Since recruiters are no longer stuck handling the initial stages of this process, they’re able to invest more time and care into the next step: determining whether candidates possess the soft skills necessary to thrive as caregivers.

With simple, efficient automation and high-touch human judgment, UnitingCare Queensland and Bluecare have found a solution that speeds up the initial application while still giving recruiters a chance to single out top talent. Olive now helps recruiters schedule candidates for interviews in just two days, weeks faster than before. In total, BlueCare’s recruiters have been able to save a total of 3,300 hours annually.
Olive’s 24/7 functionality and ease of application have also helped increase BlueCare’s application completion rate to 81%. With less candidate drop-off, BlueCare has reduced their job advertising budget, saving $150,000 annually.
What’s more, the implementation of Olive has fundamentally redefined recruiters’ roles. With the burden of administrative tasks removed, recruiters are now empowered to meet clients and stakeholders in person, gaining a firsthand understanding of the front-line environment to better represent the caregiver experience.
