Operating across England and Scotland, The Good Care Group (TGCG) is dedicated to delivering the best possible care to its clients. That tenet is manifested in the core of its offering: award-winning live-in care. Under this model, a TGCG “carer” lives with a client and provides 24/7 personalized assistance for at least two weeks.

To provide the most people with the best care, it’s important that TGCG recruits high-effort, empathetic carers. Which means that TGCG’s hiring process must not only be fast, but also highly effective in selecting the right candidates.

Recruiters were spending too much time disqualifying candidates.

TGCG has never had a problem attracting candidates. But attracting the right candidates had proven difficult. To be deemed qualified, professional carers need to adhere to strict qualifications, including passing a rigorous situational judgment test. Ultimately, only 2% of applicants fit these criteria.

Tasked with performing hiring work manually, TGCG’s recruiters were spending hundreds of hours every month manually filtering out unqualified applicants. That slow process didn’t just waste recruiters’ and candidates’ time — it wasted valuable dollars too. TGCG needed a solution that both streamlined the process for their teams and improved the candidate experience.

We have hundreds of applications every week but most are from people who aren’t the right fit.

Transforming candidate screening for stronger care teams.

TGCG partnered with Workday Paradox to implement Workday Paradox Candidate Experience Agent, a modern hiring solution powered by Max, TGCG’s conversational AI agent. Max is able to determine which candidates are qualified to be carers, disqualify candidates who aren’t good fits, and move forward ideal people in the process.

Candidates interested in applying to be a carer can start a conversation with Max either on TGCG’s career site or by texting a shortcode on WhatsApp. Available 24/7, Max automatically initiates the screening process through a series of short text messages. By matching answers to specific knockout criteria, Max identifies which candidates meet TGCG’s requirements and seamlessly progresses them to the interview scheduling process in minutes.

Our recruiters spend more time on the human connection, which is incredibly important for the care sector.

Reducing unsuitable candidates to less than 1%.

Max’s addition to the TGCG team has enabled recruiters to do what they do best — create high-touch, meaningful candidate experiences.

“Max does the bits that you don’t need humans to do,” said TGCG Head of Resourcing Sarah Chambers. “That allows our recruiters to spend more time on the human connection, which is incredibly important for the care sector.”

By freeing up recruiters to spend more time with candidates, Max ensures that top talent doesn’t get ignored, while accelerating the overall hiring process. Previously, 59% of the applications entering TGCG’s ATS were from unsuitable candidates. With Max filtering those candidates out during screening, that number has dropped to less than 1%.

This increase in efficiency has not come at the expense of the candidate experience either. Since implementing conversational AI, TGCG has seen their application rate boom to 81%, along with a 142% increase in qualified candidates. And because of Max’s ability to increase quality of hire, TGCG has scaled their workforce without increasing spend — they actually reduced the average cost-per-hire by 44%.

With Paradox, the candidates that now come through our system hit the main criteria for what we want them to do.
