JLL Singapore builds AI-based apps to transform and empower its people.

“Now our people can access data, insights, and reports using natural language queries.”—Senior Director Product Management

Efficiency optimized through increased use of analytics

When JLL wanted to standardize its global HR processes, Ajay Pimpalshende, senior director product management, says Workday was chosen as a future-proof platform that would keep the company up to speed with emerging technologies. “We needed technology that could grow and evolve with us,” Pimpalshende explains. “Workday had the best future product features using emerging technologies like AI.”

The second those future features became available, Pimpalshende began exploring their potential. The verdict: “Workday listened and then built what their customers needed. After using the technology for six years, we really understand the power of Workday.”

Unique AI-enabled apps built in days.

JLL is using Workday Extend to rapidly create custom apps with low- and no-code tools—building with clicks, not code. “It’s great for meeting local or regional needs,” says Pimpalshende.

JLL first used Extend during the pandemic, when its UK and Singapore offices urgently needed to track staff vaccinations. “In a couple of days, the application was live, and we were able to track all the COVID-19 vaccination records,” Pimpalshende recalls.

The speed of development was only possible because every application created in Extend is protected by Workday security. “As an example, our vaccination tracker automatically complied with the relevant privacy laws and data security requirements,” Pimpalshende explains.

JLL has also used Extend to build an ‘Easy HR’ app, allowing people to ask HR systems questions, such as “What’s the cost center code?”, or generate reports using natural language.

Instead of having to create a report yourself, you can just tell the system what you want, and it arrives in a fraction of a second.Senior Director Product Management

Transparency around data usage.

JLL is determined to maintain transparency as it adopts AI. “We have access to a lot of information—and that information should not be misused,” Pimpalshende says. “AI is available to everyone, but how we use it matters.” JLL is comfortable using AI in Workday because the platform already has responsible AI built in.

Workday prioritizes ethics, privacy, and transparency.

Improved extended workforce management.

Pimpalshende was delighted when Workday acquired VNDLY because managing contract staff was a major pain point for JLL. “Using VNDLY, we were able to seamlessly integrate our contractor data in Workday,” Pimpalshende says. “Now I can see all my FTEs and my contractors in a single view.” VNDLY gives CHRO data on contingent worker headcount, spend, performance, and projects that helps support JLL’s growth strategy with an agile workforce.

Workday VNDLY is working fantastically well.

Self-serve analytics for executives.

Pimpalshende says Workday allows executives to interrogate data from multiple sources using self-serve analytics tools. “My CHRO doesn't have to ask our recruiting team to create a report for her. She can log into Workday with a secure, single sign-on and get our global attrition or D&I report in one click.”

Pimpalshende says his CHRO loves that she can run analytics tools across a single weave of global hiring data—or drill down to an individual in a 100,000-strong workforce. “She can check the career plan of one of my staff in Singapore while she’s sitting in Chicago,” Pimpalshende notes.

We are on a transformative journey with Workday.
