Challenges.

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) was using a 30-year-old ERP system with limited tools for viewing and analyzing critical business data. The university lacked functionality, and its siloed systems led to inconsistent information and errors. It was critical for PLNU to have a comprehensive solution that connected finance, HR, and student data, and was flexible enough to handle a variety of academic calendars and educational modalities.

The Workday data architecture, mobile capabilities, and reputation vastly differentiated the company from other vendors in the market. Through its partnerships with other universities, Workday understood the complexities of the industry and directly applied those insights into the products, demonstrating a commitment to higher education.

Workday understands the complexity in higher education and is shaping the product to address those industry-specific needs.

Workday in action.

Workday enabled PLNU to see real-time costs by department, analyze human resources data, and have a holistic view of the university at any given time, which has been extremely valuable. The PLNU staff can now work more strategically and focus on higher-level tasks rather than data entry.

Workday helped PLNU identify incorrect organizational staff structures, as well as salaries that were being associated to the wrong cost center and causing challenges in budget analysis. With Workday, PLNU corrected organizational charts add reallocated salaries to the appropriate cost center for more accurate budget forecasting.

Workday has consistently delivered on its promises, reinforcing PLNU’s confidence in its decision.
