FAQs.

What is global payroll management, and how does Workday's global payroll software work for UK organisations?

Global payroll management is paying employees accurately, on time and in line with local regulations across multiple countries from one connected system. For UK-headquartered organisations, Workday combines Workday Payroll for the United Kingdom and Ireland — a native, HMRC-ready payroll engine — with Workday Global Payroll Connect, which uses pre-built, bi-directional integrations to certified third-party providers in additional markets. HR, time, absence, payroll and finance share one data model, giving UK finance and people leaders a real-time view of domestic and international pay costs.

Yes. Workday Payroll for the United Kingdom and Ireland is built for HMRC compliance. It calculates PAYE across Scottish, Welsh and Rest of UK tax regimes and applies Employee and Employer Class 1 National Insurance. It prepares RTI Full Payment Submissions (FPS) and Employer Payment Summaries (EPS) and submits them directly to HMRC through the HMRC RTI online service.

Pensions auto-enrolment assessment and the full set of UK statutory payments — SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP, SNCP, SPBP and SSP — are supported natively. UK customers use Workday Absence alongside Workday Payroll for statutory holiday pay, Statutory Sick Pay and Statutory Parental Pay calculations.

Workday assists with the deduction of statutory elements required by law; customers should independently verify their specific statutory obligations with HMRC and other relevant bodies.

Workday Global Payroll Connect provides bi-directional, pre-built integrations to a certified partner ecosystem covering global, regional and local payroll providers. Partners in the Workday Marketplace for Payroll include global providers such as CloudPay, Strada, Safeguard Global, ADP and PwC, alongside regional providers including Ramco Payce and Metanet.

UK customers can review the current list of certified integrations and partner badges on Workday Marketplace before contracting.

Workday centralises multi-country payroll on a single platform, combining native payroll for Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, the UK and the US with Workday Global Payroll Connect for additional markets.

The Global Payroll Hub gives payroll and finance teams a consolidated view across pay groups and countries, with variance analysis and processing checklists. For cross-border UK employees, Workday supports UK international assignment records and can include international assignment data in an FPS submission. Note that Workday reports a worker's international assignment data in the first submission in which they're included, and the assignment contract end date is entered via a manual override task.

As with all statutory reporting, customers should confirm their compliance approach for international assignment workers with HMRC and their legal advisers.

UK deployments of Workday Payroll for the United Kingdom and Ireland typically follow Workday's proven "Your Way" methodology — a rapid, four-stage, iterative approach (Plan, Architect & Configure, Test, Deploy) used by large enterprise customers, with phased go-lives that can be extended to additional countries via Workday Global Payroll Connect.

For eligible mid-sized organisations, Workday GO Global Payroll uses smart deployments delivered by a Workday payroll partner and can go live in as little as 8–12 weeks.

Rolling out to additional countries typically involves associating each pay group with a certified partner vendor, configuring country-specific payroll data, and using the Global Payroll Hub to monitor processing. UK public bodies, for example, have deployed Workday UK Payroll on top of an existing Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Financial Management footprint to strengthen the bridge between HR and Finance.
