Power and flexibility

Traditional payroll solutions provide a hard-coded, out-of-the-box solution that may meet some of your requirements. However, when it's time to calculate those unique earnings or tax deductions, or retrieve balances for your fiscal year or other unique time periods, these solutions often fall short. When you use Workday Payroll, the Calculation Engine lets you define specific earnings, deductions, accumulations, and balances. This same configurable approach is used by Workday to deliver and maintain statutory calculations such as Federal/State/Local withholding, FICA, EIC, etc.

  • Setting up many different lists to control payroll processing.
    Solution: Through simple configuration, gross-to-net is calculated for different types of runs as well as criteria for specific earnings and deductions.
  • Defining balances for all earnings, deductions, and accumulations for which you want to see 'period-of-time' values.
    Solution: Create a few simple balance periods and the system can retrieve any values on-the-fly for these periods-of-time. You can also create additional balance periods after implementation and still retrieve applicable values as of any context period (even those already calculated).
  • Creating solutions outside of Workday to handle your unique HR reporting needs.
    Solution: Through simple mapping, view any pay results needed for any period of time. You can also configure access for non payroll users, such as a benefits administrator, to easily view a subset of payroll data, such as payroll benefit 'actuals'.  In addition, any page in Workday can be exported to Excel or PDF when needed.
  • Auditing payroll results for pay period or comparison across periods.
    Solution: Workday's payroll preparation software provides the ability to perform comprehensive audits against your payroll results using any criteria.

    Solution: Making the right information available to you on a timely basis is key to making your payroll activities run smoothly. Workday Payroll service allows you to easily access and report on all payroll data, including the ability to retrieve any value for any period-of-time on the fly.

  • Earnings and Deductions
    Workday Payroll allows you to configure earnings and deductions according to the needs of your organization. Using Workday, you can easily map to compensation elements and benefit plan costs, as well as identify eligibility criteria and scheduling logic, such as only taking medical deductions on the first pay period of each month. A flexible tagging feature is also available to create dynamic groups.
  • Accumulations and Balances

    Workday Payroll's actionable analytics feature lets you configure accumulations, balance periods and balances according to your current calculation and reporting needs. You can also easily modify or add to the list of balances at any time.

  • Pay Groups
    Group your workers into logical pay groups according to your organizational needs, with no restrictions related to FEIN or type of employee.
  • Processing
    Identify criteria to determine the population to be calculated for each type of payroll process (regular vs. bonus, etc.).
  • Reporting
    Configure reports to display balance period values as needed. Using a simple mapping approach, create configurable payroll reports showing any earning, deduction, accumulation, or balance result.
  • Tax Updates
    Leave behind the tedious process of applying tax updates (rate, limit, calculation changes, etc.) to your system on a regular basis. With a rules-based design, Workday's payroll software is able to quickly react to tax updates and deliver these seamlessly to you as needed.
