POS-00573 - Sr. Automation Engineer


Location: Pleasanton, CA

Workday is looking for an Engineer to join our Automation Team. You will have primary responsibility for automating the operations that we use to run our systems for customers - both production and implementing customers. You may also assist with automation of system administration processes for Marketing, Partners, Sales, Training, and Development.

With a growing customer base and a Software-as-Service model, you need to think about how we optimize our operations to make them as seamless, efficient, and adaptable as possible. You must enjoy the fast pace of an Internet company where the requirements for the operations team will change rapidly. You need to be able to work closely with our developers as they build product enhancements for smoother operations and features that impact our operations.


Responsibilities/Experience/Skills/Education:

  • Expertise in designing, building, and operating Linux/Unix-based large scale Internet systems

  • Experienced programmer with Object Oriented Design knowledge and good Linux scripting skills

  • Experience running patches across multiple servers

  • Database experience, MySQL is preferred, but not required

  • Ability to work effectively with Development architects, systems engineers and operations teams

  • Bachelor's Degree, plus 5- 10 years of progressive experience in a high-availability environment.

  • Significant Automation projects from start to finish using one or more of the following: Perl , Bash, Shell, Java, etc

  • Good communication skills to support our compliance initiatives (SAS70, disaster recovery, ISO) and the teamwork required for rapid company growth

  • Excellent analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem determination
